The Alabama Iota chapter is the oldest fraternity on the Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) campus. The chapter recently moved from the campus's old fraternity row (built in 1954) to its present location at Lot (1) on new Fraternity Row. The new $1.315 million chapter house opened in the Fall of 2002. The college had an aggressive fundraising campaign and challenged the Greeks with raising a minimum of $700,000 (over half of the estimated construction cost) before construction could begin. SAE was the first fraternity to achieve this goal by raising over $853,000 as its part of the fundraising drive by the end of 2001. The new house provides nearly 7,100 square feet and houses 22 men at maximum capacity.
